Clinical trials, also known as clinical research studies, may help everyone who has, or may someday have, a specific illness or condition by testing to see if a study medicine or treatment works safely. A new treatment may not always work better and can even sometimes not work as well as already existing treatments but without clinical trials, we wouldn’t know this information.
If an investigational medication or treatment shows promise and is approved by the FDA and/or other regulatory agencies for wide-spread use, then many who are affected by that illness or condition could be helped.
In addition to learning about the new investigational medication and/or treatment tested in the clinical trial, we also learn many important things about the disease or condition. This knowledge is passed on to your physicians and can help them with providing medical care for that condition.
